Auf diesem Weg gelangen rund 200 Erntehelfer aus dem Maghreb zu ihrer Barackensiedlung. Die ersten Jahre arbeiten sie illegal. Zur harten Arbeit kommt die Sorge vor Unfällen oder Krankheiten. Denn wenn sie während dieser Zeit von den Behörden aufgegriffen werden, verlieren sie die Möglichkeit, ihren Status in Zukunft legalisieren zu können. Die Vergabe der Papiere geschieht oft willkürlich, der Prozess ist zäh. Und selbst wenn er erfolgreich durchgestanden ist, bedeutet dies keinen Ausweg aus der Armut.

Au travail pénible s’ajoute la crainte des accidents ou des maladies. Car s’ils sont arrêtés par les autorités pendant cette période, ils perdent la possibilité de régulariser leur statut à l’avenir. L’attribution des papiers se fait souvent de manière arbitraire, et la procédure est longue. Même lorsqu’elle aboutit, elle ne constitue pas une sortie de la pauvreté.

In addition to the hard labour, there is the fear of accidents or illness.
